We all know the story, our community is the most impoverished community in the High Desert, which is one of the most impoverished communities in San Bernardino county. San Bernardino county itself is one of the most impoverished counties in Southern California. Daily we face many challenges, but the questions is, “What are WE going to do about it?” Our school has the reputation of being low performing, having a lack of rigor, minimal depth of knowledge classwork, and lessons that are disconnected from real life. The question still remains, “What are WE going to do about it?” Our kids need to have lessons that apply to real life situations. Using the flipped classroom method and authentic project based learning assignments will give our students the opportunity to have ownership and voice. These are the components that will help make our students successful. Student success forms the foundation that allows us to turn our school around.
